All Abilities Football
“Footy 4 All” was established in August 2012 to provide a sustainable football program for people with a disability over 16 years of age living in south west Victoria. The program was instigated by people with a disability and supported by a steering committee comprising Warrnambool City Council Rural Access program, South West Sport, The South West Disability Network, Hampden Football League, the Football Integration Development Association (FIDA) and local disability service agencies.
Our inaugural six week program was attended by over 40 players aged between 17 -65. Players participated in six weekly training sessions and modified games facilitated by local football identities and community volunteers. Our final match and presentation night was attended by over 100 players, supporters, volunteers, family and friends.
Our long term aim is to provide an ongoing domestic competition and to support a representative South West team to join the FIDA League.
The Hampden Hurricanes emerged from a joint partnership between Hampden Football Netball League, Warrnambool City Council, South West Sport, Football Integration Development Association, South Warrnambool Football Club, Emmanuel College and South West Disability Network to develop a Come and Try program in 2012.
Today the Hurricanes have over 40 registered players from across the region, both men and women, aged between 14 and 65, and plans are afoot to expand the program into Hamilton and Portland.
The Hampden Hurricanes also have a Facebook page so everyone can keep up to date with all the latest news.
