2018 Federation University South West Games off to a great start in Southern Grampians Shire.

Friday 2nd November 2018 saw a packed house of ninety guests enjoy the opening ceremony of the 2018 Federation University Australia South West Games.

The ceremony, conducted at the Hamilton Golf Club included some traditional elements such as:

  • the the introduction of the special guest Miriana Perkins, Australian Junior Women’s Artistic Gymnastics representative.
  • Games Patron Tom Trimnell, local identity and former mayor of Hamilton City
  • the relay of the goodwill message from the previous host shire, Corangamite, carried in by 4 gymnasts from the Hamilton Gymnastics club
  • the national anthem sung by local Jalen Walsh
  • the entry and raising of the flag by members of the Hamilton Scout Group

The guests, including sports directors and club members, invited dignitaries, staff, board and life members of South West Sport enjoyed some songs by 3HA sports reporter Phil Holmes and Jalen Walsh over dinner before speeches and presentations to sponsors and other partners.

The opening was repeated at the Netball and Soccer – the first 32 events of the games with the flag marched between participants and Patron and Special Guest wishing everyone all the best for the games.
