Preparing for a Strategic Plan?

Successful clubs plan!

The ability for clubs to plan ahead proactively is more important than ever in today’s changing environment. Many clubs are now operating similarly to businesses; therefore the expectations of members, sponsors and additional stakeholders increase.

Strategic Plans can be basic documents or comprehensive in nature, but the key to a good Strategic Plan is that it’s contents are relevant and embedded into club practice.

South West Sport has worked with a number of sports clubs and leagues to develop Strategic Plans over the past year under its Fee for Service arm.

We have put together a simple checklist for clubs who are looking to undertake the Strategic Planning Process, what additionally includes information on grants that are available (including Sport and Recreation Victoria and Local Government grants).

South West Sport recently assisted the Western District Bowls Division with a successful application for a $5,000 Victorian State Grant to develop and implement the Division’s first Strategic Plan.

Western District Bowls Division Chairman Maureen Drennan says; “the 3 Year Plan was vital for our Division to implement proper governance and procedures within the Division and our 9 Clubs.”
