Both teams together after an amazing Grand Final
Hot weather didn’t stop the 2013 Backyard Cricket Grand Final at Emmanuel College on Wednesday night with over 20 players battling it out in blazing sunshine for the coveted “golden bat.” The final was the culmination of a five week All Abilities cricket program supported by South West Sport, WDEA, Emmanuel College Cricket Academy and the Brierly Cricket Club and was a South West Games Event.
Players travelled from across the South West to take part in the Grand final match and were put through their paces in front of a small but vocal crowd of supporters occupying “Bay 13” on the boundary with eventual winners, Gold team defeating Green team 94 runs to 81.Other winners on the day were Matt Kelly who took home a new cricket bat donated by Sportspower as the Most Valuable Player for Gold team and Tony Knowles from Green team who went home with an Independent Sports gift voucher for his stellar efforts with bat and ball.
The support of Emmanuel College and Brierly Cricket club has given players the chance to develop some club and community links and we’re so grateful for that opportunity and for the support of WDEA and all our sponsors. We’re looking forward to building on those relationships to develop a bigger and better cricket program for 2014.
